A BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal area has been caught on camera assaulting a differently-abled man with a stick.
In the viral video, BJP leader Mohammad Miya can also be seen trying to shove the stick in the man’s mouth as he is heard saying he will vote for Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Miya, who unsuccessfully contested to be the municipal chairperson in Ujhari of Amroha district, assaulted the man inside the collectorate, after the man, identified as Manoj Gujjar, allegedly criticised policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, The Times of India reported.
Defending his act, the BJP leader told ANI on Wednesday, 26 December, that he was just trying to make the man leave the place as he was drunk and was abusing Modi and Yogi Adityanath.
The incident took place when Miya accompanied Sambhal district president Rajesh Singhal and other BJP workers to meet sub-divisional magistrate Dipender Yadav at the collectorate, and Gujjar started raising slogans.
After the video of the incident went viral, a case was registered on the night of Tuesday, 25 December. Police teams have been sent to make the arrest, Sudesh Kumar, Circle Officer Sambhal, told ANI.
According to The Times of India, the victim was booked under charges of breach of peace and was sent to jail after the incident.
