A truck allegedly carrying meat from an illegal slaughterhouse was seized and three persons were detained in Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Thursday. The men were also thrashed by the locals, as per an ANI report.
According to district magistrate Sanjeev Kumar, the locals intercepted the Muzaffarpur-bound truck at Shahpur bazaar, overpowering the three men travelling in the vehicle, even as another occupant fled from the spot, as per a PTI report.
The DM added that the meat sample had been sent for testing and that strict action would be taken against those allegedly running the illegal slaughterhouse.
Meanwhile, the incident sparked off protest by the locals who blocked NH-84 between Ara and Buxar demanding closure of the illegal slaughterhouse, as per a PTI report. They also demanded action against the station house officer (SHO) of Shahpur police station, who had reportedly failed to curb beef-smuggling, as per an India Today report.
After senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors, the blockade was lifted. The India Today report also states that among the protesters were Bajrang Dal party workers, who had been tipped off along with some locals on Thursday morning about a truck carrying beef.
