Indian Pilot From Delhi Was Captain of Crashed Lion Air Flight
Indonesia’s search and rescue agency said on Monday it did not know if there were any plane crash survivors.
An Indian pilot from Delhi was reportedly on board the Lion Air flight that crashed into the sea off Jakarta in Indonesia on Monday, 29 October.
There were seven crew members on the flight, including co-pilot Bhavye Suneja, 31.
The flight crashed with 189 people on board, minutes after it took off from Jakarta for a Sumatran island. It is likely that there have been no survivors in this crash, say international media outlets.
According to a report by The Times of India, Suneja was a resident of Mayur Vihar in New Delhi. He studied in the Ahlcon Public School of the same area, and graduated from the Bel-Air International flying school in California, US.
According to the pilot’s LinkedIn profile, he joined Emirates as a Boeing 737NG pilot in September 2010 and worked for three months. Suneja had been flying for Lion Air since March 2011.
A senior official of a leading airline in India told The Times of India that Suneja was considering moving back to India and had requested a posting to Delhi.
