As the infighting within the Aam Aadmi Party post Assembly and MCD poll debacle continues, Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann was on Monday appointed as the chief of AAP’s Punjab unit.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the party's top leadership with leaders from Punjab at New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence.

The party also decided to constitute a separate Political Affairs Committee (PAC) for Punjab so that the state unit may take independent decisions.

A roadmap to revamp the Punjab unit of the party was also approved at the meeting.

While Mann was appointed as the convener, AAP's MLA from Sunam, Aman Arora was chosen as the co-convener.

Gurpreet Singh Waraich, the outgoing convenor of the AAP’s Punjab unit, questioned the “urgency” of the party leadership in appointing Bhagwant Mann as the new state chief and asked under “what pressure” this decision was taken.
