1. Kin, Friends Protest for Tracing Missing Techie Ajitabh
Relatives, friends and colleagues of Kumar Ajitabh staged a peaceful protest in front of the Town Hall on Sunday, 9 July, marking 200 days of the techie's mysterious disappearance. Ajitabh's family has been demanding a CBI probe as both the Special Investigation Department (CID) have failed to trace him.
Ajitabh (32), who worked at the BT Group in southeastern Bengaluru's Bellandur, had left home on December 18, 2017, to meet a prospective customer of his Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, which he had put up for sale on OLX. There is no trace of his car or iPhone either. The CID was handed over the case four months ago after the SIT failed to make a headway.

2. Infosys Foundation to Fund Rs 200 Crore for Metro Station
The Infosys Foundation is looking to fund Rs 200 crore for the proposed Konappanna Agrahara Metro station at Electronics City under the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s Phase-II project.
A memorandum of understanding between the Infosys Foundation and BMRCL will be signed on 19 July, said Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday. Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty met him at his home office Krishna. Apart from donating a huge amount to Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, the foundation also has played a major role in the Education sector.
On the occasion, Murty said her foundation would also take up maintenance of the metro rail tracks and the station for a period of 30 years after the completion of the project.

3. Bengaluru Student Bags Rs 1.2 Crore Residency With Google
A student from the International Institute of Information Technology - Bangalore (IIIT-B) has bagged a prestigious residency program with tech giant Google, which also comes with a pay cheque of Rs 1.2 crore per year. He is one of only 50 people in the world and around 5 in the country to have been selected for the program this year.
Aditya Paliwal, 22, was in the Integrated MTech dual-degree programme of five years from 2013 to 2018 and will be heading to New York to take up the position. Called the AI (Artificial Intelligence) Google Residency Program, it is for a period of one year with the option to converting it into a full-time placement, said Aditya.
Asked to comment on Aditya winning the residency, R Chandrashekhar, dean, academics, IIIT-B said, “Aditya was one of the bright students at IIIT-B. He has bagged the Google residency, which involves a sum of Rs 1.2 crore for that period.”

4. Seized Bike Stolen From Police Station Parking Lot
A motorcycle towed by the Jeevan Bima Nagar traffic police for wrong parking and locked at the station in the last week of June has been stolen.
Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Siddappa filed a complaint with the JB Nagar police on Thursday to trace the stolen vehicle.
In his complaint, Siddappa said that on 23 June, he and his staff, who were on patrolling duty, found vehicles parked on the footpath on 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar. They towed several vehicles and brought them to the station.
A few hours later, a man identifying himself as Raghavendra, approached Siddappa claiming that one of the motorcycles belonged to his friend and that he had come to get it. Siddappa told him that he had to pay the fine to take the bike. The man said he would come back with the money. The police then locked up the seized bikes and started attending to other work

5. Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy Launches Scheme to Take on Chinese Goods
Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is all set to take on China. In his maiden budget presented on 5 July, he announced a ‘compete with China’ scheme, under which, to counter the inflow of products imported from China, manufacturing units will be set up across the state.
Kumaraswamy announced: Spare parts will be manufactured at the village level, assembled at taluk level, and malls will be opened to market them.
The Chief Minister’s ambitious plan foresees the state manufacturing solar power goods, LED lights, bathroom fittings, sporting goods, electrical goods and electronic toys in various districts of the state in two years.

6. Hoarding for Which 25 Trees Were Culled in Bengaluru Pulled Down for the Second Time
Marking a victory for citizens and activists in Bengaluru, a hoarding was pulled down on Saturday after it was put up for the second time in two months.
On 9 May, as many as 25 trees were cut down at Green Glen Layout between Iblur and Bellandur junctions to increase the visibility for the advertisement on the hoarding, sparking massive outrage by citizens.
Following campaigns and widespread media coverage, the hoarding was pulled down In a joint drive by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)’s Forest Cell and residents living near the Outer Ring Road.
“This is a clear message. We are watching and we will not allow murder of our trees. The perpetrators will be brought to book,” said Sonali Singh, a resident activist.
