1. Karnataka Government Looks to Reduce Petrol and Diesel Prices by Rs 2 to Rs 2.50

The JD(S) and Congress coalition government led by chief minister HD Kumaraswamy might be reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by a maximum of Rs 2 to Rs 2.50. According government sources, Kumaraswamy last week had instructed the finance department to consider the possibility of reducing the fuel prices at the earliest.

It is the said that instructions were passed on to the finance department after Kumaraswamy held a review meeting of the resource mobilization in the state. Resource mobilisation aside, the increasing political pressure on Kumaraswamy to reduce the burden on the common man has has also played a key role in the Karnataka government rolling back the taxes on petrol and diesel.

2. Siddaramaiah Told to Calm Brewing Discontent Among Congress MLAs

After two rounds of meetings with State Congress leaders on Sunday, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal has given the responsibility of dousing discontent among party legislators to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He has been told to hold talks with the Jarkiholi brothers and convene a meeting of party legislators, if necessary.

Mr. Venugopal is learnt to have told Mr. Siddaramaiah, who returned to Bengaluru from a 12-day foreign tour, to hold parleys with Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi and MLA Satish Jarkiholi to calm the storm brewing in the party after the PLD Bank elections in Belagavi.

Being seen as close to Mr. Siddaramaiah, the Jarkiholi brothers have been sulking with the party leadership after facing a setback in the PLD Bank elections following Belagavi Rural MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar’s candidates winning the top posts.

3. Uber Driver in Bengaluru Falls Asleep While Passenger Drives Himself Home

Uber argued on Monday that is should be allowed to keep driving on the streets of London.

In another recent incident involving taxi-hailing app, an Uber passenger was forced to take to the steering wheel during his ride from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to his home, after the designated driver was found in an inebriated state. The driver eventually fell asleep. He tweeted a picture of himself in the driver’s seat, with the driver in the passenger seat, explaining the incident.

“The ride back from Bangalore airport was not quite what I expected. The driver was drunk and drowsy. I had to pull the car over to the side and I drove all the way home. Pic with the driver in the rider seat passed out,” the passenger tweeted along with a photo of the driver and a screenshot of the trip.

He later tweeted saying that the Uber safety team responded to his complaints and stated that passengers should not drive the cabs due to safety issues.

4. Three Decomposed Bodies Found

Decomposed bodies of three persons were found in their house at Muthyalanagar in Yeshwantpur on Saturday.

The body of Sheshapani, 44, who had been ailing for a long time, was found next to a chair. The police suspect that immediately after his death, his wife, Usha Nandini, 42, and his mother, Sudha Lakshmi, 68, committed suicide in front of the body.

The family, which hailed from Andhra Pradesh, had migrated to the city several years ago. They were running a tailoring shop, the police said, and added that the couple had no children.

The incident came to light on Saturday night when the houseowner Naveen Kumar sensed foul smell emanating from the house.

5. Moderate Showers Uproot Trees, Damage Vehicles

Moderate rain with squally winds lashed the city on Sunday afternoon, ripping tree branches, damaging vehicles and paralysing normal life. A tree was uprooted at Margosa Road near Malleswaram 8th Cross, damaging two cars, four bikes and an autorickshaw, but no injuries have been reported.

Uprooting of trees was also reported at Indiranagar's CMH Road, Kanteerava Nagar and Nandini Layout where cars were damaged, while a tree fall near Prasanna theatre at Magadi Road damaged an autorickshaw.

The BBMP control room said there was no waterlogging in the city, though the rain triggered traffic jams on MG Road, Vasanth Nagar, Malleswaram, Indiranagar, Hebbal, Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, Yeswanthpur, Hebbal, Yelahanka, Jayanagar, Koramangala and HSR Layout.
