Ayodhya Verdict: SC Directs Govt to Form Trust for Building Temple

The land will be handed over to the Centre-controlled trust.

The Supreme Court also said that the land allotted to Ram Lalla, will also be in possession of the trust.

A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court, in its unanimous verdict on the highly-sensitive Ayodhya land dispute case, asked the Centre to frame a scheme within 3 months and set up a trust for the construction of a temple.

The bench, comprising Justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, said the possession of the disputed 2.77 acres of land will be handed over to the deity Ram Lalla, who is one of the three litigants in the case.

The possession of the inner and outer courtyards will be handed over to the government-controlled trust.

The Ayodhya trust's main responsibility will be to monitor the construction of the temple.
