In a bizarre incident, mice allegedly attacked an ATM machine belonging to State Bank of India (SBI) in Assam’s Tinsukia district, tearing apart currency notes worth Rs 12 lakh.

The SBI ATM, reportedly in Laipuli area was closed since 20 May, due to technical glitches.

On 11 June, when repairmen visited the ATM, they found “heaps of 500 and 2,000 rupee notes shredded into tiny pieces,” reported The Indian Express.

The newspaper, quoting bank officials said, notes worth Rs 12,38,000 have been destroyed by the mice.

“20 May to 11 June is a significant period of time for an ATM to be out of service. People are suspicious as to why it took so long for the mechanics to arrive.”
