A statue of social reformer Dr BR Ambedkar was vandalised in Saharanur district's Ghunna village in Uttar Pradesh, inciting the locals' anger, reported ANI.

The Dalit community held a demonstration to protest against the incident, blocking roads and shouting slogans at the police and local administration.

Because of this, additional police have been deployed to keep tensions from escalating.

There have been similar incidents in the past in UP's Allahabad, Siddharthnagar, Azamgarh and Meerut.
