‘Am a Refugee But I Enjoy India’s Freedom,’ Says Dalai Lama

Tibetan spiritual leader in exile, Dalai Lama, on Sunday, 14 October, praised India for its freedom and said despite living in the country for 60 years as a refugee, he has enjoyed the freedom India offered him.
Speaking about the freedom of Tibet, the Dalai Lama recalled former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru telling him that the United Nations could not do much.
“Pandit Nehru advised that the United Nations cannot do much. Sooner or later, much better to approach the Chinese and talk to them,” he said. He added that despite deciding not to take independence from the People's Republic of China, they should have got certain rights from China for the preservation of Tibetan culture.
The Tibetan leader also remarked that they would eventually be able to teach the Chinese how to practice democracy.
“Since 2001, I completely retired. The elected political leadership carry all these responsibilities. I think eventually we can teach Chinese how to practice democracy,” he said, according to ANI.
