Five members of a family from Rajasthan’s Banswara, a doctor couple and their three children, were killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday,12 June. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Pratik Joshi, Dr. Komi Vyas, their eight-year-old daughter Miraya, and five-year-old twin sons, Pradyut and Nakul.

Dr. Komi Vyas, a pathologist, had recently resigned from Pacific Hospital in Banswara to relocate to London with her family where her husband, Dr. Pratik Joshi, was working as a radiologist for the past four years. He had returned to India just three days before the incident to accompany his family abroad.

According to relatives, the couple had been married for about a decade and were preparing to begin a new chapter of their life together.

On the day of the crash, the family boarded the Air India flight AI171 to London from Ahmedabad. Moments before takeoff, they clicked a selfie; Komi and Pratik smiling on one side of the aisle, their children on the other. Minutes later, the aircraft crashed, killing all five.

The tragedy has left Banswara in mourning. Deputy Superintendent of Police Gopichand Meena visited the family’s home after news of the incident broke. Relatives have gathered at the residence, now enveloped in silence and grief.

One cousin, Nayan Joshi, shared that Komi had been living in Banswara temporarily, waiting for the children’s visas to be processed, while they continued their schooling in Udaipur.
