For those living in Delhi and commuting by a vehicle regularly, your traffic woes may soon be eased, as the police in the capital city has come up with an ambitious plan to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to reduce the congestion.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Delhi L-G Anil Baijal approved Delhi Police’s concept note laying out a plan for Rs 1,000 crore. A special technician has been brought on board to help launch the project by 2019.
Sharing the details, Depender Pathak, the special commissioner of police (traffic), was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying:
Alongside these, the police is also considering procuring around 1,000 LED boards which will use AI technology and feed realtime traffic information to the commuters.
The project envisages a system where there are less number of traffic police personnel on the roads, with even tickets being issued with the help of the technology. For this, the police is also considering having a device (or chip) on-every Delhi-registered vehicle, the HT report added.
