  • A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Dipak Mishra and Justice Nagappan issued a notice to the Central Government on Friday for alleged illegal purchase of a VVIP chopper by the Raman Singh government in Chhattisgarh.

  • The notice was issued after two petitions, filed by Swaraj Abhiyan and TS Singhdeo, alleged that the transaction was “shady” as a specific AgustaWestland helicopter was bought by paying “over 30 percent” commission without exploring options.

  • The petition added that the purchase took place at the same time as Raman Singh’s son allegedly opened bank accounts in the tax haven of British Virgin Islands.
