‘Proud of My Skin’: Activist Kavita Krishnan Slams Racist Trolls
Krishnan was trolled for her complexion after she joined a protest in Delhi against the revocation of Article 370.
Kavita Krishnan, secretary of the All India Progressive Women's Association and a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Wednesday, 21 August, gave a befitting reply to all the racist trolls on Twitter.
Krishnan has repeatedly voiced her disapproval for the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the subsequent communication outage.
On 5 August, she joined a protest against the decision at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, following which she was repeatedly trolled over her complexion.
"Photos of me speaking to the Wire at the first Kashmir protest on 5 August keeps showing up in my comments and mentions, shared by trolls as proof of how ugly and unrape-able I am,” she wrote.
She added, “As opposed to 'Fair Kashmiri girls' who they believe are the spoils of war on Kashmiri people.”
Krishnan was referring to several derogatory comments on Kashmiri girls by many leaders that made it to the news ever since the effective revocation of Article 370.
Krishnan added that the Governor of Meghalaya allegedly trolled her too. The Quint, however, could not find any insulting tweet by Roy. But Krishnan shot back at Roy in another tweet, calling him a “100% Sanghi Twitter troll.”
Earlier, between 9-13 August, Krishnan along with Jean Dreze and Maimoona Mollah from the All India Democratic Women's Association, the women's wing of CPI(M) and Vimal Bhai, a social activist had travelled to Jammu and Kashmir on a fact-finding mission.
Speaking to HuffPost, she said, "Frankly, it looked like occupied Iraq or occupied Palestine."
According to their 'Kashmir Caged' report, the screening of their short video report from Jammu and Kashmir at the Press Club of India (PCI) on 14 August was also denied under pressure.
