The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday asked a TADA court in Mumbai that Abu Salem, a convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, be sentenced to life in prison.

A special TADA court on 16 June had convicted six persons, including mastermind Mustafa Dossa and extradited gangster Salem, in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case – 24 years after the attacks left 257 people dead.

After the sentence, Salem moved a European Union court on 18 June in a bid to have himself sent back to Portugal from where he was extradited to India to face the trial.
