Abdul Basit Reminded of Pak’s Commitment to Control Terrorism: MEA

The Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit was summoned by Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted on Wednesday.

Swarup briefed details of the meeting in a press conference. He said that in the meeting Basit was reminded of Pakistan’s solemn commitment to not allow terrorism against India to prosper in its soil.

The MEA spokesperson also said that seventeen attempts by armed terrorists to cross the LoC and carry out attacks in India have been interdicted which resulted in the killing of thirty one terrorists. Currently, he said two such engagements are ongoing at the LoC.

Parrikar described the items that were recovered from the Uri attack site. They include:

  • GPS from the bodies of terrorists with coordinates that indicate the point and time of infiltration across the LoC and the subsequent route to the terror attack site
  • Grenades with Pakistani markings
  • Communication matrix sheets
  • Communication equipment
  • Other items made in Pakistan, including food, medicine and clothes.

If Pakistan wishes to investigate, India is ready to provide finger prints. We demand that Pakistan lives up to its public commitment of not allowing terror against India.

Sources from Pakistan said that India needs to return to the negotiating table instead of promoting anti-Pakistan propaganda, News 18 reported.
