AAP Member and Former Banker Meera Sanyal Passes Away at 57
Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia said the “country has lost a sharp economic brain and a gentle soul.”
Banker-turned-politician Meera Sanyal passed away at her residence in Mumbai on Friday, 11 January.
Sanyal was suffering from Cancer for the past two years.
57-year-old Sanyal had joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after quitting her job as the country chief executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland, and contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from South Mumbai, but lost. She was a member of the National Executive Committee of AAP.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy CM Manish Sisodia took to Twitter to share the news about her passing away, with the latter saying the “country has lost a sharp economic brain and a gentle soul.”
Preeti Menon, a fellow member of the Executive Committee, said in a statement, “It is with profound sadness that I share the heart breaking news that my colleague, my leader, Meera Sanyal is no more. I have never met a more graceful, dignified person and share the deep pain that her family must be going through right now. I pray they have the strength to bear her loss.”
In her 30-year-old banking career before surprising all by plunging into politics, Kochi-born Sanyal had also served as the head of corporate finance and chief operating officer for ABN Amro for Asia, reported PTI.
