A Raja & Kanimozhi Meet Karunanidhi After 2G Verdict
A mega rally has been planned for DMK’s A Raja and Kanimozhi as a celebratory note after the 2G verdict.
A Raja and Kanimozhi – the DMK leaders who were acquitted in the 2G scam case – were welcomed with full fanfare upon their return to Chennai. Hundreds of supporters gathered at the Chennai International Airport – which was decked up with DMK flags to mark their return from Delhi.
DMK president MK Stalin, along with other party members, accompanied Raja and Kanimozhi all the way from the Chennai airport to the party headquarters in a mega rally.
From the DMK headquarters, they went to meet party veteran Karunanidhi at his home in Gopalapuram. Kanimozhi will also be given a grand reception at her residence in CIT Colony.
The Specifics of the 2G Verdict
CBI judge OP Saini acquitted all the accused in the 2G spectrum scam on 21 December. Saini said that he had written a very brief judgment, given the record of the case. He said that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the accused.
The judgment came as a celebratory one to both Raja and Kanimozhi. The judgment read, “Some people created a scam by artfully arranging a few selected facts and exaggerating things beyond recognition to astronomical levels.”
The case relates to the decision of Raja to award 122 telecom licences in 2008 at the rates which were prevailing in 2001, which according to CAG estimates resulted in presumptive loss of up to Rs 1.76 lakh crore.
The others who were acquitted included prominent businessmen Ravi Ruia, Anshuman Ruia, IP Khaitan, Shahid Balwa, Vinod Goenka, Sanjay Chandra, former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, and RK Chandolia, who served as PS to Raja in the Telecom Ministry.
