UPA leaders have expressed happiness after a special court, on 21 December, acquitted all accused in the “2G spectrum scam” case.

Former telecom minister A Raja and DMK leader Kanimozhi were acquitted, as were Loop Telecom promoters IP Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan and four others. The court also acquitted Essar Group promoters Ravi Kant Ruia and Anshuman Ruia of the charges in the case.

Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram told ANI that the verdict proved the allegations of a “2G scam” were untrue from the start.

Allegation of a major scam involving the highest levels of the government was never true, was not correct and that has been established today.

Congress leader Kapil Sibal accused former CAG Vinod Rai of having manufactured the scam. He told ANI:

My position and the PM’s position stand vindicated. It was a scam by Vinod Rai. Vinod Rai’s presumptive loss theory has been proved wrong.

“I would love to thank everyone who stood by me,” Kanimozhi said.
