Twenty-five-year old Charan Prasad acted on an anonymous call and rescued an elderly woman in Andhra Pradesh who had been starving for two months.

Prasad later shared pictures and details of his encounter with the woman in a social media post.

Ramulamma has been living by herself in Vizianagaram area of Andhra Pradesh, reported The Logical Indian. On 18 February, passers-by informed Prasad’s Helping Force Foundation, which reaches out to the needy and offers them help.

Speaking toThe Logical Indian, Prasad said of Ramulamma:

She doesn’t have any residence or any family. Her condition is better; her health is steadily improving now.

Prasad also spoke of his NGO which is run by him and 15 others.

I’m just 25 and there are 15 people with me. We aim to open an orphanage and then an old-age home in our town soon.

The media report cites a study conducted by the Agewell Foundation to point out that 65 percent of old people in India are poor. The situation is more grim for women owing to gender discrimination and a longer life span, among other things. It also adds that more than six old couples out of 10 are forced out of the house by their children.
