The gruesome rape and murder of a 25-year-old physiotherapist in Mumbai’s Vile Parle has left people horrified by its brutality.

The victim had been found dead in the early hours of Tuesday. Two of her friends have been questioned in connection with the crime, Mid-Day reported. Police identified the duo as Abhishek, the victim’s boyfriend, and Ankit, an interior designer.

The victim lived on the first floor of the apartment building while her parents stayed on the ground floor.

The Crime

The 25-year old had gone out on Monday evening with a friend to celebrate the latter’s birthday. She returned home by midnight, a few hours after which she was raped and murdered, as the autopsy report has revealed.

Her neighbour saw smoke rising from her room and alerted her parents, who were asleep. On entering her flat, they found that she had been strangled with a pair of jeans and the attackers had also tried to set her body on fire.

The police are using footage from a CCTV camera in the vicinity to nail the perpetrator. The murder seems to have been plotted after the culprit raped the victim.
