Indo-Pak War Hero Subedar Singh Who Inspired ‘Border’ Passes Away

Border, the film on 1971 Indo-Pak war was based on Subedar Ratan Singh and other soldiers who fought bravely.

1971 India-Pakistan War hero and Vir Chakra awardee Subedar Ratan Singh passed away on Wednesday. He was 92-years-old. His funeral will take place at 11 o’clock in Tibba village in Kapurthala district, Punjab on Thursday.

The film Border was based on Subedar Ratan Singh and the other soldiers who fought in the war. Actor Puneet Issar had played the role of Ratan Singh in the film.

When Subedar Ratan Singh was posted at Longewala in Rajasthan during the war, the Pakistani army battalion of 45 tanks and more than 2 thousand soldiers lost to just 80 Indian soldiers.

The Brig Kuldip Singh Chandpuri-led Indian troops, which included Subedar Ratan Singh bravely fought and won the war.
