A 17-year-old who was preparing for the IIT-JEE examination at a coaching academy in Rajasthan’s Kota has allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday morning, 25 December, according to a Hindustan Times report. The student who is a resident of Bihar’s Sivan district, was found hanging in his hostel room by his cousin, who is also studying in Kota.

According to Mirror Now, the hostel owner informed the police officials about the incident, when the deceased did not receive any calls from his parents, and was later found hanging in his hostel room. The police have not found any suicide note so far.

However, the police officials are waiting for his parents to reach Kota to conduct post-mortem, for further investigation, reported Hindustan Times.

According to the Hindustan Times, this is the third such suicide in the last four days. It is also the 19th suicide so far this year in Kota.

In a similar incident, a 17-year-old girl who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), was found hanging on Monday, 24 December, reported the Hindustan Times.

According to the Hindustan Times, data by the district administration show that 58 students attending coaching classes in Kota committed suicide between 2013 and 2017. Stress due to studies, parental pressure, depression, homesickness, love affairs, liquor or drug abuse and emotional issues are the main reasons behind the suicides, according to a report by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

Kota which is the hub of coaching classes, has around 1.5 lakh students from across the country every year.
