Activist Trupti Desai and members of the Bhumata brigade were detained by the police on Tuesday morning for trying to enter the Trimbakeshwar temple near Nandur Shingote region in Nashik, Maharashtra.

The police let the women go by 1:20 pm on Tuesday itself.

The activist group tried to enter the temple, which is traditionally closed for women worshippers, hours after they were detained for the same on Monday evening.

Why are we being stopped from proceeding to Trimbakeshwar temple? Whatever the police is doing is wrong.

Desai and supporters had tried to enter the inner sanctum of the Shani Singnapur temple – which also bans women’s entry – on 26 January 2016 in Ahmednagar region of Maharashtra.

The activist group seeking gender equality tried to enter the Trimbakeshwar temple on the occasion of Maha Shiv Ratri on Monday.
