Wild Animals to Be Killed if They Venture Into Human Habitat: SC

SC has refused to stay government notification declaring nilgais, monkeys and wild boars as vermin.

• The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that wild animals can be killed if found outside forest areas and entering human habitat.
  

• The ruling came when the court was hearing the case against an Environment Ministry notification declaring nilgais in Bihar, monkeys in Himachal Pradesh, and wild boars in Uttarakhand as vermin.
  

• Public Interest Litigations (PIL) were filed by animal rights activist Gauri Maulekhi and Wildlife Rescue and Research Centre (WRRC) against the government notification.
  

• The apex court asked the petitioners to give representation to respective state governments and the central government about their objections.
  
• The matter will be heard in detail in SC starting 15 July.
