Noida Encounter: ‘Cop Shot My Brother for Promotion’, Says Kin
The accused trainee sub-inspector has been sent to jail and the role of the other 3 policemen is being investigated.
A trainee sub-inspector reportedly opened fire at two men in Sector 122 of Noida. While one man Sunil sustained a bullet injury on his leg, the other man Jitendra Yadav’s condition is more serious and he is currently admitted at Fortis.
Jitendra’s brother, Om Veer Yadav, speaking to media, has alleged that the fake encounter was done only to get an out of turn promotion and to win medals, and that he was unhappy with the police investigation in the case.
While Yadav's family has alleged that he was shot in a 'fake' encounter by the Police "because of our caste," the Senior Superintendent of the Police (SSP) has refuted such claims.
An Uttar Pradesh police spokesperson claimed that a gangster was killed and nearly two dozen criminals were arrested by the police in 15 encounters in different districts of the state, over the last two days.
Since the Yogi Adityanath took over as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, there have been about 950 encounters in less than a year. More than 200 people have been arrested and over 30 have been killed, reported NDTV.
SSP Love Kumar told ANI that "this is certainly not a case of an encounter."
He also said that staff communication told him that there had been some argument with the man during which the sub-inspector shot at him and they are taking him to the hospital.
The accused trainee sub-inspector has been sent to jail and the role of the other three policemen, two constables and a sub-inspector is being investigated. All four of them remain suspended, informed the SSP.
The victim's family members said the incident took at 10.30 pm when four people, including the victims, were returning from Behrampur.
