Police Jawan Shot Dead by Naxals in Gadchiroli on Ambedkar Jayanti

As many as six Naxals fired at Nagose when he was standing near the stage, police said.

A police jawan was shot dead allegedly by Naxalites in Aheri tehsil of Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Thursday, when he was accompanying former MLA Deepak Dada Atram at a programme to mark Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Gadchiroli police said.

Nanaji Nagose was Atram’s bodyguard and was shot at Chhallewada village, under Repanpalli Sub Police Station limits.

As many as six Naxals in plain clothes fired at Nagose when he was standing near the stage and immediately fled into the jungle, police added.

The jawan, who sustained injuries, was brought to the General Hospital at Gadchiroli, by a helicopter and was declared dead during treatment.

Police further informed that following the incident, anti-Naxal operations have been intensified in the area.
