Wagah: Pakistan release Indian prisoners as a goodwill gesture ahead of the country
Chandigarh, Aug 13 (IANS) Twenty-nine Indian prisoners, including 26 fishermen, were set free on Monday from Pakistani prisons and sent back home through the Attari-Wagah joint check-post between the two countries, nearly 300km from here.
The prisoners were freed by the Pakistani authorities as a goodwill gesture.
Those freed included Gajanand Sharma, who had been missing from Jaipur in Rajasthan since 1982.
Upon their return to India, the prisoners got an emotional reception and they thanked the Almighty for their return.
They were medically examined by doctors at the border before they were taken towards their respective destinations.
