P Chidambaram’s Role in Aircel-Maxis Deal Comes Under ED Scanner

  • The Enforcement Directorate will be probing former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's role in the Aircel-Maxis deal. Chidambaram's son, Karti, has also come under the ED’s scanner.
  • Earlier in February, the ED had moved the Supreme Court against the special court's order on the Aircel-Maxis case that discharged former Union Textiles Minister and DMK leader, Dayanidhi Maran, and his brother Kalanithi Maran.
  • The Maran brothers were chargesheeted in the 2G spectrum case by the CBI in August 2014, for the offences punishable under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and under relevant provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.
