Murthal Rapes: Justice Sanghi Had Evidence, Haryana Minister Says

The late Justice NK Sanghi, who passed away on Monday following a heart attack, had “personally” informed Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma about the Murthal rapes after taking suo motu notice of reports appearing in the media, the minister said.

After a Cabinet meeting the minister said,

Justice Sanghi had told me that he had concrete proof and that he would discuss the matter with me on his return from Tirupati.

Justice Sanghi had on 24 February taken suo motu cognisance of reports that women were raped by highway goons, first broken by The Tribune. He had also said that the incident needed to be probed by a “premier investigating agency”. After him, Justice Amit Rawal too had taken up the issue. The case pertaining to suo motu notices by the high court is listed for 14 March.
