An FIR has been registered against 1 Above owner, the apparent point of origin of the fire. At the time of writing this article, at least 12 of the victims of the Kamala Mills fire were identified as women. The fire originated from 1 Above’s false roof, according to an NDTV report.

The reason for this could be the fact that on 28 December 2017, 1 Above was hosting a special pre-new year’s ladies night. The restaurant is famous for its outside seating and vibrant rooftop parties.

The resto-bar 1 Above has a 4.5 star rating on Facebook, with nearly 400 five-star reviews. It is known for its event nights, and Thursdays are usually scheduled for Ladies Night, with cocktails and offers for women.

In the run-up to the 2018 new year celebrations, it had a number of events scheduled. One of them was the ‘Wild Things Ladies Night’ event on the fateful night of 28 December.

1 Above was hosting a ladies night on 28 December, possibly leading to a higher number of women, and possibly female casualties in the fire.

Mojo’s Bistro

Mojo’s Bistro, the lounge below 1 Above, was one of the other restaurants in the compound that was gutted by the Kamala Mills fire.

While initial reports claimed that Mojo’s Bistro may have been the point of origin of the fire, it was later confirmed that the fire originated at 1 Above, and spread to Mojo’s Bistro.

Mojo’s Bistro, like other bars and restaurants in the Kamala Mills area, hosted a number of event nights, and had just shared a post on Twitter about an upcoming event that would be spread over 31 December 2017, ie New Year’s Eve, and 1 January 2018.
