Kamal Haasan announced that his party would be called the ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’ at an event on 21 Feburary
On 21 February 2018, actor Kamal Haasan made his official entry into Tamil Nadu’s political arena. Haasan announced the launch of his political party, and revealed that it would be called the ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’, or the People’s Justice Centre, at the event in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
He was joined by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti, and farmer's leader PR Pandian at the launch.
The launch of Haasan’s party has been widely anticipated ever since he announced that he would enter politics in late 2017, and the collective social media response to the launch, speaks for itself.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor wished the Ulaganayagan the best of luck.
Leaders from the RSS and BJP also congratulated Haasan.
The star’s Twitter handle was lit up with tags across the social media platform. With the actor’s tweet announcing the launch of his party being retweeted more than 8,000 times and garnering more than 20,000 likes in less than six hours.
Some, however, don’t seem too pleased.

After the netas, the acting fraternity joined the congratulatory bandwagon, making it clear that they expected a “revolution” from Kamal Haasan.

Haasan also unfurled his party’s flag – a white flag with six red and white arms linked, and a star in the middle...and needless to say, his fans ate that up too, calling him the leader who would “join us to do the work.”

Fans and supporters took to tweeting photos of the event to silence naysayers....or any opinion to the contrary really.
But as the dust settles from the announcement of Kamal’s political entry, the question everyone will be asking is, “Can he back his words with action?”
