TV Journalist Shot In His Ghaziabad Home Remains Critical

The police said preliminary investigation suggested personal enmity was the reason behind the attack.

Journalist Anuj Chaudhary, who was shot at by unidentified men at his house in Ghaziabad on Sunday, 8 April, is undergoing treatment at the Intensive care unit (ICU) at Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziadbad’s Nehru Nagar. His condition continues to be critical, ANI reported.

Two bike-borne men barged into the residence of a TV journalist and shot him in the stomach and right hand, following which he was rushed to a hospital, Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna said. He said that the incident took place around 7:30 pm on Sunday, Indian Express reported.

Anuj Chaudhary, who worked with Sahara Samay, a Hindi news channel, is the husband of a BSP councillor and the police are looking at past enmity as being a motive behind the crime, the official told Indian Express. “The firing incident occurred due to old enmity,” Krishna said.

Indian Express reported that the Ghaziabad-based journalist had informed the police that there was a Rs 10 lakh contract out for his murder. Hours before being shot, he had asked a policeman to return home since he was “not going to step out all day.”

He had been provided a gunner, but since it was a Sunday, he had asked him to return home. No one else was injured in the attack.

The accused fled the spot, police told the daily. A case has been registered at Kavi Nagar police station. Four teams have been constituted by Ghaziabad police for arrest of the miscreants, reported ANI.

Chaudhary’s wife Nisha was elected a councilor on a BSP ticket, according to a police officer. The injured scribe was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is undergoing treatment, he said.

Chaudhary had just returned home after a visit to Razapur village, where road construction work was on, the officer said.

"The family members have identified the assailants, though a complaint is yet to be received," he added.
