  • Amid accusations and counter-accusations over the AgustaWestland issue, Congress has accused the Modi government of ‘working overtime’ to tap the phones of opposition, civil servants and judges. According to Anand Sharma, senior spokesperson of the Congress Party, ‘there is dirty tricks department in the BJP Government, which is working overtime tapping phones of Opposition leaders, civil servants and judges’.
  • He alleged that the government is putting senior leaders and bureaucrats under surveillance, manufacturing documents, using state agencies and ‘pliable’ sections of media. Cautioning the government to stop this game of political blackmail, he said it was ‘spreading canards’ and making attempts to ‘defame’.
  • Wondering as to how classified documents belonging to the Ministry of Defence, Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate have been selectively leaked to few channels and agencies, he said such leaks create an ‘incomplete picture’ of the issue at hand.
