Girl Dies After Eating a Firecracker, Thinking It’s Chocolate

A five-year-old girl died after eating a firecracker, mistaking it for a chocolate in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.

A five-year-old girl died after “eating” a firecracker, mistaking it for a chocolate, in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district.

Damini Nikam was playing outside her house in Tisangi village in Khed tehsil when she spotted some firecrackers lying there and consumed one of them mistaking it for a chocolate, an official attached with the Khed police station said.

Damini’s mother rushed her to a nearby primary health care centre where she died while undergoing treatment, the official said. The police have also said investigations are underway and a case will soon be registered under the relevant section of the IPC.
