  • French President Francois Hollande, who chaired an emergency security meeting on Tuesday said that the stabbing of a police official and his wife was “incontestably a terrorist act”.

  • This statement comes after France and others have faced the brunt of increasing extremist violence in the last couple of weeks.

  • 25-year-old Larossi Abbala, with a past terrorist conviction is suspected in Monday’s knife attack in the Paris suburb of Magnanville, according to police officials.

  • Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve who visited the police station where one of the victims, 42-year-old Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, worked said more than 100 people seen as potential threats have been arrested in France this year, including in recent weeks.

  • France, which is currently hosting the Euro 16 football series, has been on high alert and is under a state of emergency after the deadly Islamic State attacks in November.
