Former Army Chief JJ Singh has joined the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab. He was the first Sikh officer to become army chief.
He joined the party in the presence of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. He will be contesting from the Patiala constituency.
This election will see two former soldiers going head to head. Singh will contest against Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh, who hasn't lost an election from the Patiala (urban) seat since 2002.
