A Communist Party of India (Marxist) activist and a supporter of the Baratiya Janata Party (BJP) were hacked to death in the Kannur, Kerala within twelve hours of each other.

A CPI(M) member CV Dhanraj was killed by bike-borne assailants in Payyannur, Kannur district (Kerala) around 10:15pm on Monday, reports The New Indian Express.

Within hours, BMS (Bharathiya Muzdoor Sangh) activist and BJP supporter CK Ramachandran was killed outside his house, reports The Indian Express.

The killers hurled a crude bomb at him while Ramachandran was entering his house, also in Payyannur, before he was attacked with sharp weapons.

The killings are suspected to be a fallout of the political rivalry between BJP and CPI(M) in the state. These murders have gained impetus after the Kerala Assembly elections in the past months.
