Cherrapunjee Sets New Rainfall Record after 10 Years

The famous Cherrapunjee rain has reached a new level, with 471.7mm of rainfall on a single day.

The famous Cherrapunjee rain has reached a new level, with 471.7mm of rainfall on a single day.

The old record of 407.7 mm rainfall received on August 21,2005 was broken by a huge margin. The new record is of August 19, 2015.

Sohra (erstwhile Cherrapunjee) has received 1,644.5 mm of rain in August alone.

Meghalaya received 100.4 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, which was 464 percent more than normal. According to IMD, the normal rainfall was pegged at 17.8 mm.

However, Meghalaya has received only 1,489.1 mm of rainfall from June 1 to August 18 against the normal rainfall pegged at 2,056.2 mm.
