Chawl Collapses in Mumbai’s Malad: Two Dead, 13 Others Rescued
The ‘ground plus two floor’ chawl was situated in Malad’s Abdul Hamid Nagar.
Two people were killed as an ‘L2’ chawl house building collapsed in Mumbai’s Malad on Thursday, 16 July. At least 15 people were trapped in the building, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) sources told The Quint.
The ‘ground plus two floor’ chawl is located in Malad’s Abdul Hamid Nagar.
Mumbai’s suburban district’s Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of those who died after in the collapse.
Two people were rescued before the arrival of the fire brigade and sent to a hospital in a private vehicle. Once the fire brigade arrived, more people were rescued by them, administered first aid and sent to the hospital in an ambulance.
Search and rescue operations are still underway.
Four fire engines, one rescue van, and one ambulance are at the spot.
District Fire Officer SB Karade, ADFO MV Sawant, and Senior Officers AA Khanolkar, AG Padwal and PS Shinde have also reached the site.
