Cabinet to Meet Again to Decide on President’s Rule in Uttarakhand
Cabinet will meet on Sunday yet again to decide whether or not President’s rule must be imposed in Uttarakhand.
The union cabinet met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi late Saturday night at his residence at 7 Race Course Road.
The cabinet, headed by the PM, met to discuss all available options the party has in Uttarakhand, which is facing a political storm. The cabinet will meet on Sunday yet again, to discuss the possibility of imposing President’s rule in the state.
The cabinet meet was called after a BJP delegation met President Pranab Mukherjee and sought his intervention to dismiss the state government.
Meanwhile, the Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal has disqualified the nine rebel Congress MLAs. This comes just ahead of the trust vote on 28 March. The disqualification of the MLAs could prove to be an advantage for chief minister Harish Rawat.
Earlier in the day, a sting video was released targeting Chief Minister Harish Rawat which, they alleged, showed him indulging in horse-trading to save his government.
The sting showed the chief minister allegedly offering money to legislators to vote for his government in the vote of confidence mandated by Governor KK Paul before 28 March.
Releasing the video, rebel Congress lawmaker Harak Singh Rawat said the chief minister was trying to bribe the nine rebel Congress legislators as well as as a few of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also alleged that the rebels have been receiving death threats.
