  • A major fire broke out after a blast in a chemical factory in Dombivali, in Thane district of the Greater Mumbai region, on Thursday. 20 fire brigades and 15 ambulances were sent for the rescue operation, one police official said.

  • A total of 11 people died and about 100 were injured, reports ANI. Eight fire tenders were rushed to the Acharya Chemical Factory, in MIDC Phase 2 in Dombivali, according to a Mid-Day report.

  • The Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who visited the site of the accident, urged police officials and local authorities to speed up relief operations.

“First we thought it was an earthquake, the way our building was shaking,” said Sumedh Joshi, who lives about a mile away from the factory. “Our window panes shattered due to the blast and we quickly came out of our building.”
