The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani denied the allegations that Udta Punjab has been leaked online by CBFC on Thursday.

This (allegation) is baseless, we abide by rules.

Udta Punjab was leaked online on Wednesday – just two days ahead of its scheduled release in theatres. But the film’s team managed to remove it online on war footing from torrent sites. Later, they also reportedly filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell against the leak.

The film actors have been urging people on Twitter to not watch the pirated copy and to watch it in theatres only.

According to the snapshots from the leaked copy – available on multiple online platforms – it was seemingly the copy submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It even featured scenes that the Censor Board had objected to.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was discovered that the film directed by Abhishek Chaubey was available on torrent sites for illegal download. However, soon the download links were “removed due to a copyright complaint”.
