New Delhi, Jan 24 (IANS) A total of 795 police personnel will be awarded Police Medals on Republic Day this year, a Home Ministry statement said on Wednesday.These include 107 Police Medals for Gallantry, 75 President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 613 Police Medals for Meritorious Service. Among the 107 Gallantry awardees, 66 are from Jammu and Kashmir, 35 from the Maoist-affected areas and three from the northeast region. Gallantry awardees include 38 from Jammu and Kashmir Police, 35 from the Central Reserve Police Force and 10 from the Chhattisgarh Police. This year, five Indian Police Service officers will receive Police Medals for Gallantry, the statement said, adding that tighter norms were used to select awardees for the President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service and Police Medals for Meritorious Service this time.--IANSrak/tsb/bg
