Principal, 2 Others Arrested After 3 Year-Old Dies in School Lift

A three-year-old school girl died in an elevator accident in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning.

In a tragic incident, a three-year-old girl, Syeda Xainab Fatima, died after getting stuck in the lift of a private nursery school on Tuesday in Dilsukhnagar area of Hyderabad in Telangana, police said. Agencies report that the school principal and the child’s teacher and an educational official have been arrested.

The incident occurred as a school teacher along with a few students were going from the ground floor to the third floor of the school.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot and an investigation is underway. A case has been registered against the school management under the relevant IPC section for causing death by negligence, the police said.

The girl’s head got stuck on the lower side of the grilled lift and she was crushed to death. We will further investigate the matter and the possible lapses, that also will be brought on record. A thorough inquiry is underway to determine on how the incident occurred, whose mistake it is, whether that of management or the teacher accompanying the students. Stringent action will be taken against those who committed the mistake.

As per preliminary information, the nursery school student’s head got stuck in the lift, resulting in the tragedy, another police officer attached to Malakpet Police Station said.

Meanwhile, the family members of the child and other local residents gathered in front of the school and held a protest demanding stern action against its management.

The Director of Education Officer has been summoned by the police for investigation.
