A family of four wild elephants lost their lives due to electrocution on Tuesday in Yadur village in Virajpet Taluk.
They reportedly stepped on a high-power transmission line when they were moving through the estate, resulting in their electrocution. While two elephants were adults, two others were calves.
A statement released by the Karnataka Forest Department claimed that the transmission line passing through the estate was cut due to short circuit.
This is the second such incident in 15 days, with two elephants dying under similar circumstances in the same area, reported The Hindu.
A meeting has been called between the forest department and the electricity corporation to decide the further course of action to prevent such incidents.
