The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was held on Sunday, 17 July with a record 18.72 lakh candidates appearing for it. The NEET UG 2022 was conducted for applicants who wish to pursue undergraduate medical and allied programmes in medical colleges across the country.

About 95 percent attendance was recorded for the medical entrance exam held on Sunday, its highest number of applicants ever, according to National Testing Agency (NTA) officials.

Breaching the 18 lakh mark, a total of 18,72,329 candidates had registered for the country's largest entrance exam, of which 10.64 lakh were female.

Compared to last year, 2.57 lakh more students were supposed to take the exam this year. The exam was held at 2 pm on Sunday.

This was the first time that the number of registrations for the NEET medical entrance exam surpassed 18 lakh.

Last year, the NEET-undergraduate exam was held on 12 September, with over 95 percent of the registered candidates appearing for it. Over 15.44 lakh candidates appeared for the exam, which was conducted at 3,858 centres.

Of these, at least 8.70 lakh students had qualified.

NEET admit cards are available on the official website neet.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in.

The entrance test is being held despite NEET aspirants requesting for a postponement. On 13 July, aspirants approached the Delhi High Court seeking directions for postponement of the exam. However, the high court dismissed the plea.
