Both bovines and girls were victims to a spate of acid attacks in Uttar Pradesh over the last few days.

In Agra, around 15 cows and oxen were attacked with acid, suffering from burns when they were spotted. Some right-wing groups soon brought the matter to the notice of the district administration, sending officials into a search operation for the culprits.

The administration also sent out a team of veterinary doctors to inspect the affected cows and oxen, and treat their injuries. An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons by the police.

Speaking to Times of India, Mukesh Goswami, District Coordinator of Bajrang Dal's Agra unit said:

We had been receiving inputs on cows being attacked in Karmana and nearby villages, but we failed to identify the assailants. On Sunday, six cows were attacked and we informed local administration.

Another member of the organisation said that only abandoned cows and oxen faced this fate, adding that they might have been attacked with acid by farmers who spotted them on their fields.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two minor girls in Bareilly were attacked with acid by a group of men. They have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition, and the police has launched an investigation into the attack.
