Closing Bell: Sensex Climbs 1,028 Points to 29,468, Nifty at 8,597

Indian equity markets recovered most of Monday’s losses, opening with strong gains.

Sensex on Tuesday, 31 March, spiked 1028.17 points (3.62 percent) to close at 29,468.49 while Nifty jumped 316.65 points (3.82 percent) to close at 8,597.75, as the nation entered its seventh day of the lockdown in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to BloombergQuint, All sectoral indices ended off their day's high but managed to report gains, led by the FMCG and Metal index.

All sectoral indices had opened with gains, according to BQ. Auto, Metal, Pharma and Realty indices are up over 2 percent each. 1,305 number of stocks ended the trading day with gains while 472 ended with losses.
