Sensex Closes at Record High, Nifty Ends Below 11,950

S&P BSE Sensex closed at 40,301, higher by 136 points, while NSE Nifty 50 ended at 11,942, higher by 52 points on Monday, 4 November.

The 31-share Index rose 0.4 percent to end at an all-time high at 40,301, surpassing the previous record high of 40,267. The NSE Nifty 50 rose 0.43 percent to end at 11,942. Both the benchmark indices extended gains for the seventh consecutive trading session, their longest stretch of gains in over seven months.

Earlier, the Indian equity benchmarks opened higher, with Sensex opening 0.59 percent higher to hit all-time high while the Nifty opened 0.43 percent higher at 11,939.45 points.

The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 rose 0.4 percent.

The market was tilted in favour of buyers with 991 stocks advancing while 370 shares declined on the National Stock Exchange.

Eight out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by the NSE traded higher, lef by NSE Nifty Metal Index's 2 percent rally.
